A message from the President

A message from the President

Please read this and think about what Mulgrave means to you and the community.

It has been a very odd and challenging start to the 2022 football season. Obviously, we are without a home with the pavilion redevelopments running behind schedule.

It’s easy to get frustrated, however we must focus on the things we can control. We must move forward and push hard against the adversity and simply get stronger.

Our players are doing just that, and the results are starting to show. Our Under 19s are two from two, the reserves are one from two, and our young senior side put in a very strong performance against Ringwood, with the result hanging in the balance until the last kick. It’s been great to hear the song sung again in the rooms, and it’s going to be a regular occurrence.

To get through this season with a strong and growing enthusiasm that will see us in a new home for 2023, and to financially overcome the loss of revenue due to not having a social club in 2022, we need to focus on three basic pillars that will keep our foundations strong.

1. Volunteers

We have all been locked away for two years and many are planning to move around the country or the world this year, so are hesitant to put up their hands to help around the club.

We are all wanting to do the same, which means we need more people that we can shift in and out of roles throughout the year. Our roles are well defined. What we need are people to simply support our General Managers for a few rounds here and there. We will not survive if others don’t assist.

Please come and talk to me, Mark Haywood or David Rowland, make yourself known and just let us know that you are prepared to help in some fashion.

2. Membership

Over the last few years our supporter membership program has been working really well. It’s good value from just $45, gets you into our home games, reduces admin at the gate and most importantly, makes you a financial member of the club.

The players are going to be getting on the phone this Thursday calling their parents, siblings, mates and others to walk them through the online process of becoming a member. It’s very simple and it will make a huge difference.

To our traditional Lions Pride Members… please sign up again, we need your support, and we will issue a Lions Pride special edition hoody this season to keep you warm.

3. Functions

We will not be holding as many this season without our pavilion, but the ones we do have this year will be big and we will need your support.

The Mully Grubs Golf Day was sold out and a massive success for the club. A huge thanks to those who organised, sponsored and attended.

Please keep an eye on our communications so you know when and where we will be holding our key events. The dates to note are:

  • Saturday May 28th - $5k Draw
  • Saturday July 2nd – Cocktail Night
  • Saturday July 30th – Ladies Night
  • Friday September 16th – Business Lunch – this could well be our first function in the new facilities.

If you are reading this, the Mulgrave Football Club means something to you. It is now 96 years old and we need to keep her going and growing into our new home. Please help us in any way you can with your time and your financial support via the above key pillars.
