By Mulgrave FC | Wednesday, January 27th 2021
The football department has been hard at work since the conclusion of the 2019 season in order to continually improve our playing list. Below is some information on our new recruits.
You can access our 2021 playing list with jumper numbers here
Tuesday, March 23rd: Jayden Sturley
An official welcome aboard to Jayden Sturley, another player who joined us before last season and will finally get to run out for the club this year.
Jayden is a quick forward flanker who can run through the midfield, and is renowned for his courage over the footy. He joins us from Rowville.
Great to have you at Garnett Road Jayden, looking forward to see you out there!
Tuesday, March 16th: Dane Gallagher
It's awesome to confirm that Dane Gallagher is on board for this year, after joining us last pre-season prior to the cancellation.
Coming across from Rowville, Dane is a strong and super-competitive wingman who likes to get forward for a goal or two.
Welcome aboard once again, Dane!
Thursday, March 4th: Matt Homfray
It's fantastic to be able to announce that Matt Homfray has re-committed to Mulgrave for the 2021 season, after joining the club prior to last season’s cancellation.
A versatile key position player, Matt also possesses the athleticm to play through the midfield.
Matt’s footy journey has taken him through Dandenong Stingrays, Frankston, Noble Park and Beaconsfield.
Welcome (again) Matt, we’re rapt to have you on board in 2021.
Wednesday, March 3rd: Bernie Ruaro
An official welcome to Mulgrave for Bernie Ruaro.
A young, powerful forward, Bernie played a season of senior footy at 17yo for his home club of Myrtleford in the Ovens & Murray FL in 2018. In 2019 he headed overseas for the Australian winter, playing a season of cricket in England.
In fantastic news for us, Bernie recently moved into the local area and landed at Garnett Road.
Welcome Bernie, we’re rapt to have you here both on and off the field!
Tuesday, March 2nd: Mitch Jacobson
It’s another “re-welcome” to the club, this time for Mitch Jacobson.
Mitch joined Mulgrave in 2020 before the season was cancelled, and we can confirm he’s back on board for 2021
Joining us from Rowville, Mitch will be a welcome addition to the backline. A super-reliable defender, he hates getting beaten and is also safe with ball in hand.
Welcome (again) Mitch! We can't wait to finally see you in our colours.
Thursday, February 25th: Jack Roper
It’s another homecoming with confirmation that Jack Roper will be a Lion again in 2021.
Another product of the Glen Waverley Rovers footy factory, Jack spent seven seasons at Mulgrave before heading to Foster for a couple of years and playing in a senior flag in 2019.
Jack’s a tough midfielder / defender with a booming kick, and we’re stoked to have him back.
Welcome home, Jack!
Wednesday, February 24th: Matt Wilson
One to get the fans through the gates!
A big welcome to Mulgrave for Matt Wilson.
Matt joins us from Foster FC where he played in the 2019 senior premiership and was named in the Alberton FC team of the year. He’s also a dual senior B&F winner at Clayton FC.
Matt’s an elusive forward who can run through the midfield… and we’re told he has a bottomless bag of tricks.
Awesome to have you at Garnett Road, Matt… can’t wait to see you out there!
Saturday, February 6th: Jaxon Gervasoni
We're absolutely rapt to be able to officially welcome reigning league best and fairest Jaxon Gervasoni back to Mulgrave for this season.
Jaxon’s rise has been amazing. Joining us from Glen Waverley Rovers Junior Football Club in 2018, he started in the Under 19s before it quickly became obvious he was ready for senior footy, where he spent the second half of the season. He still won the U19s B&F, despite only playing nine games for the Colts.
Then in 2019 – his first full year of senior footy – Jaxon took out the Paul Edie Medal as the Eastern Football Netball League Division 2 League Best & Fairest.
A tough and relentless midfielder, Jaxon crossed to Doncaster for 2020 but of course, the season was over before it started.
He’s back home now… and we’re stoked!
Friday, February 5th: Mitch Prosser
It's a welcome back to a key member of the backline, Mitch Prosser. A solid young defender with a long, accurate kick, Mitch shifted over to Knox for the “season that wasn’t” in 2020… but we’re rapt to confirm he’s officially back at Garnett Road!
Trackwatchers tell us he’s spent plenty of time in the weight room in the off-season and is looking a million bucks.
Thursday, February 4th: Nick Beer
It’s a “second welcome” to Mulgrave for Nick Beer, who actually joined the club last year but of course, didn’t get to run out for us.
Nick’s stuck on for 2021 and beyond... it’ll be great to see him finally pull on the jumper!
A smooth-moving 24 year-old midfielder with lovely skills, Nick joined us from Doveton Eagles where he played in the 2019 senior flag and was named in the Southern FL team of the year.
Welcome (again) Nick!
Wednesday, February 3rd: Connor Tilyard
We’re very, very happy to officially welcome Connor Tilyard back to Mulgrave for this season.
Yet another product of the Glen Waverley Rovers footy factory, Connor played colts at Mulgrave in 2018 before splitting his time between Blackburn and Eastern Ranges in 2019, where he played some great footy in the NAB League.
He’s a silky-smooth runner who likes to get forward and kick a goal. We can’t wait to see Connor out there this year!
Wednesday, January 27th: Tom McGowan
We’re pumped to welcome Tom McGowan back to Mulgrave for the 2021 season.
A former Glen Waverley Rovers junior, Tom lit up the early games in 2014, booting 73 goals for the Mulgrave Under 19s on the way to the premiership. He went on to senior footy at Mully and was our leading goalkicker in 2016.
Tom returns to Mulgrave after a couple of years at Foster, where he played in a senior flag and led the Alberton Football League goalkicking in 2019.
It's great to have Tom home.
